Poetry: "Progress" by Nanyah Franklin

By Nanyah Franklin

ii HAVE A GOAL iiN LiiFE
TO SUCCEED AND DO MANY GOOD DEEDS

BUT AS ii TRY TO ACCOMPLiiSH THAT GOAL
iiT SEEMS THAT ALL ii FiiND ARE
OPEN WOUNDS FROM THE PAST
LEFT TO DO NOTHING BUT BLEED

ii TRY AND TRY
BUT EACH TiiME I FALL DOWN
EVERY TiiME ii GO TO CLiiMB THAT LADDER
TO SUCCESS
ii ONLY FiiND MYSELF ON THE GROUND

AS ii PRACTiiCE TO WALK
ii CONTiiNUE TO STUMBLE
AT TiiMES WHEN ii SHOULD SPEAK
ii FIND MYSELF TO DO NOTHiiNG
OTHER THAN MUMBLE

SOMETiiMES ii SiiT
THiiNKiiNG OF A MASTER PLAN
TO KEEP FROM HAViiN PAiiN iiNSiiDE ME
AND GiiVEN TO ANOTHER STRANGER

ii DON'T UNDERSTAND
WHY THiiS RiiDE FEELS SO LONELY
ii'VE TAKEN THE KNiiFE OUT OF MY HEART
BUT STiiLL ii FEEL PAiiN STRONGLY

ii'M NOT GOiiN ANYWHERE
WHY AM ii STiiLL STANDiiNG??
AM ii DREAMiiNG OF BEiiNG A TALL MOVELESS MOUNTAiiN
OR AM ii TRULY A HUMAN BEiiNG FOR REAL??

WHEN AT TiiMES
iiM FEELiiNG WEAK
ARE MY PROBLEMS PUSHiiNG ME TO THE GROUND??
THAT'S WHEN ii FEEL NOTHiiNG'S WORKiiNG OUT FOR ME
AND NO ONE'S GOiiNG TO STAY AROUND

ii GRAB AT THE STRENGTH
DEEP WiiTHiiN MYSELF
AND SMiiLE AS ii CONTiiNUE TO WALK
AWAY FROM THE GATES OF HELL
